DCII visits Serampore & Kolkata

In April, the small DCII crew of 3 took a trip to Kolkota and Serampore to explore the former Danish settlement and the beautiful restauration work undertaken there by the West Bengal Government, RealDania and the National Museum of Denmark. It was beautiful and awe inspiring to see the way in which the former Danish settlement and the streets, riverbanks and grounds around the restored buildings have become inclusive public spaces for locals to hang out in and enjoy, together with tourists and weekenders coming up from Kolkota. In Kolkota, Institute Director Thomas Shehested opened the exhibition Evolving/Eroding at the Ganges Arts Gallery, featuring Danish and Indian artists photographic work, and Smita Bajoria, the Honorary Consul of Denmark in Kolkota hosted a lunch where we met a lovely bunch of artists from Shanti Niketan.
