Meanwhile In India – Golden Days Festival at Cinemateket, Copenhagen

Meanwhile in India – Golden Days Festival at Cinemateket, Copenhagen

As part of the Golden Days Festival at Cinemateket, we proudly present our event ‘Meanwhile in India’. Join us for a free and exciting evening where we will discuss the connection between the fall of the Berlin wall and India and what consequences the fall of the Berlin wall had for India. Afterwards we will show the movie ‘Bombay’ directed by Mani Ratnam from 1995.

The fall of the Berlin wall changed India. The country changed its course and closed in on the market economy. Politically the consequences are only appearing now. Is the rise of Hindu nationalism a consequence of 1989? Why were external events necessary in order to begin pulling millions out of poverty? Who are the heroes and villains in the more recent history of the country? Come join us for an evening where the Berlin wall and India will be connected like never before. The evening will  e led by Ravinder Kaur, center director for Institute of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen, and Thomas Sehested, director at Danish Cultural Institute in India. The event will be in English.
